The Story
OH MY DAYS, Istanbul is literally the main character energy we all need in our lives! I honestly thought I’d seen it all, but landing in a city that’s casually lounging across two continents is a total flex. The vibe is this chaotic but gorgeous mix of ancient history and total cosmopolitan buzz, and I was absolutely obsessed from the second I smelled the spices in the air. I spent my first hour just sipping Turkish tea and people-watching, trying to decide if I was giving 'Sultan’s favourite' or 'modern explorer' vibes (spoiler: it was both).
I spent my days doing a proper chronological deep-dive into the city’s history, starting with the Hagia Sophia which is honestly jaw-dropping—the architecture is just unreal. I nipped over to the Blue Mosque right after, and the tile work is basically the most Instagrammable thing I’ve ever seen. For the real drama, I headed to Topkapi Palace to imagine the Harem gossip, then cooled off underground at the Basilica Cistern, which felt like a scene straight out of a Bond film. Of course, I couldn't resist the Grand Bazaar; I haggled with about 4,000 merchants and managed to snag some gorgeous bits without losing my mind. Food-wise, I lived for the open-flame seafood at Murver and the traditional vibes at Ciya Sofrasi—Turkish tea is served literally everywhere and I am now 90% tea.
If you're planning a trip, definitely grab a Mega Pass to skip the queues because waiting in line is so last season. Istanbul is the ultimate 'culture-meets-party' holiday; it’s relatively affordable if you’re smart with your Lira, but it feels like pure luxury. I’m already checking flights back because one week was simply not enough time to conquer both Europe and Asia!
